11 years boy fight city hall and wins

This little guy changed Lawrence law...Or maybe it was this little guy

11 year-old Judson King became so enamored with the blue video game character Sonic the Hedgehog, he decided he needed a real one.

Then . .

"I got the breaking news they were illegal and that kind of made me really mad," Judson said.

Lawrence's animal code has long prohibited the fury rodents in the city limits, a fact that didn't particularly upset Judson's mother.

"I thought, that's my out. Now I don't have to get him one. Then he said, 'How do we make them legal?'" mom Rebecca Weeks said.

And that began a three year effort, perhaps crusade is a better word, to make hedgehogs legal in the city.

"I pretty much did research every single night for the past three years, and I daydreamed about having them. I had about 5,000 pictures of them," Judson said.

After the research, Judson sent a letter to city commissioners in January 2008, essentially asking them why they didn't like hedgehogs.

Eleven months later, commissioners put his issue on a city commission agenda.

"I was just playing with hedgehog pictures and then my mom comes in and says, "You are going in front of the city commission on Tuesday. I thought I would faint," Judson said.

At city hall, Judson arrived in a suit and tie and armed with personalized folders full of hedgehog facts for each of the commissioners.

It was no contest. Commissioners could not find a good reason why they were banned in the first place.

Judson King one, city commissioner nothing.

"I loved having him. I think he ought to run for commission in April," City Commissioner Sue Hack said.

Judson may not have the time.

Three years after he first asked for it, Judson got his hedgehog, Little Luke, for Christmas.

"Oh, it has been really worth it," Rebecca said.

Judson says all is going well with his new pet. But because hedgehogs are nocturnal, Little Luke's stirring frequently wakes Judson in the middle of the night.

How to save car gas and other fuels?

Saving fuel or gas in your car is not hard! Here's how to do it:

Step1
Check your tires once a week and keep them at the recommended inflation pressure. Measure the pressure with a tire gauge first thing in the morning before the car is driven. Your tire pressure should be 2 or 3 pounds lower than the maximum recommended on the tire side marking. An engine wastes power moving a vehicle riding on under inflated tires.

Step2
Inspect your ignition system. The ignition coil, distributor, rotor, spark plug wires and spark plugs are in charge of producing and delivering the high voltage needed for proper fuel combustion. If any of these components malfunctions or wears out, the ignition system will not properly ignite the air-fuel mixture, which takes us into the next step.

Step3
Replace the air filter. Your engine needs 14.7 parts of air for every 1 part of fuel and the filter element makes a good job of supplying clean air by trapping dirt and dust trying to enter the engine. But after one year of service, the filter begins to clog and starve your engine from the air it needs. Fuel economy and engine performance suffer.

Step4
Inspect the emission system. This system helps the engine burn all the fuel while reducing harmful exhaust emissions using different sensors and actuators. If any of its components fails to operate properly, fuel consumption may increase and engine condition deteriorates.

Step5
Make sure the fuel system is working properly. Change the gas filter at least once a year and maintain fuel injectors or carburetor clean for proper fuel delivery. Have the fuel pump pressure inspected once a year. A fault in the fuel system may increase gasoline consumption.

Step6
Change the oil and filter, check drive belts, vacuum hoses, battery and chassis lubrication every three months to help your engine work reliably and save gas.

Step7
Travel Light! If you are travelling with stuff you don't need, get rid of it to save fuel!

Note: A vehicle service manual will help you locate, inspect and schedule proper maintenance procedures for your particular vehicle. You can buy a service manual at most auto part stores or consult one for free at most public libraries.

How to Prevent Home Robbery and Personal Theft

Is home robbery prevention really that hard? Learn more here:

Step 1
Alarm
Even if you think you live in a safe neighborhood it is probably a good idea to invest in a security alarm. You will then have to make sure the alarm is monitored by a security store, an alarm company, or by the police directly. Some alarm companies will call you if your alarm is activated and ask you if everything is OK before sending out the police; whereas some other companies will automatically activate the emergency police response. It is a good idea to have a safe word so the police know for sure if you are alright, or if you are being threatened and forced to say that you are safe when in fact you are in danger.

Step2
Doors and Windows
Thieves often look for a simple target so if they see an open window, that is the house they will attempt to rob. Locking your doors and windows at night is the simplest way to prevent an intruder, yet so many people forget this step before going to bed. You often get into a routine where you come home and walk through the garage door without giving it a second thought, but getting into the habit of locking doors behind you is a good way to protect yourself and your family.

Step3
Lighting
Outdoor lighting is one of the best preventatives you can use to deter a thief. It is best to get energy efficient bulbs so you can leave your porch and patio lights on all night. If you do not want to leave the lights on unnecessarily, try getting motion detector lights which only turn on when someone walks by; you will need to be handy for this one or hire an electrician.

Step4
Signs
Did you know that just a simple sign can prevent a burglary? Would-be thieves know that it is easier for them to rob a house that does not have an alarm system so when they see the alarm company's sign on the front window or door, they often go to the next house. And even if you do not actually have an alarm, you can still purchase the signs. Beware of Dog is another sign that is a good deterrent. Who would want to take the risk of being mauled by a Rottweiler or pit bull?

Step5
Camera
A security camera is another great deterrent. If you can afford to have a security company install one in your house equipped with video screens that you can view around the house then do not spare any expense. These security cameras can catch robbers in the act and be used as evidence in court even if you are not home. If cost is an issue, then consider buying a dummy camera and hang it near your front door. Some of them even has a motion light that blinks when someone walks by. These cameras are battery operated and look like the real deal, but only you will know the wire is cut in the back.

Step6
Locks
When you first move into your house remember to change your locks, even if it is a new house. Remember that real estate agents, contractors, and builders have had access to your house and you never know who decided to make a copy of your key. Consider getting a biometric lock which only allows those who are in the system to use their fingerprints to open the door. You will not require a key and there is no keyhole for robbers to pick. Hire a locksmith and bump proof your locks. Keep in mind you will have to get special keys made for your new locks and these cannot be replicated at the hardware store.

Step7
Common Sense
If you have taken all of the above preventative measures and someone still manages to enter your home illegally, then be prepared. Call 911 and hide so you do not put yourself in direct danger. Do practice tests with your family to make sure everyone knows where to go and how to handle the situation. If you have nowhere to hide or are confronted by the criminal then do not try to protect your valuables; at the end of the day it is your life that is most important. Objects can be replaced but your family cannot.

Note: Many people will try to defend their property by yielding a weapon but think about the consequences; will you really be OK if you shoot an intruder? How will your family be able to cope with the nightmare and potential legal costs if your case goes to court? What happens if the robber is a psychopath or is high on drugs and has no regard for human life? You do not want to take the chance of getting killed for the sake of your jewelry, money and computer. Know your state laws if you do attempt to protect your home. In the state of Texas there is the Castle law which allows Texans to not only protect themselves from criminals, but to receive the protection of state law when circumstances dictate that they use deadly force. Governor Rick Perry of Texas was proud to sign this bill because "it protects law-abiding citizens from unfair litigation, and further clarifies their right to self-defense."

How to write music or a song?

Want to write a hit song? The problem with hits is that they require a fair amount of talent and a huge amount of luck. Almost anybody, however, can write a really good song, and the feeling you get when other people enjoy your song as much as you do. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced songwriter, here's how to tap your potential and bring out the music inside you.

0. Learn music theory. It's best to learn from someone who is an expert on writing music. You could google it, or use this link to Wikipedia. You don't really have to know the music theory, but it helps.

1. Use the clock. Try writing songs on Saturday from 9am to 12pm. This is commonly known as "songwriting prime-time" - when your creativity is at its peak. Don't miss out by sleeping in!
2. Stop thinking about writing a song, and start writing. Songs aren't just going to come to you and say hey i'm a good song, write me! you have to listen to your surrondings. it's the song you'll hear inside your head, so you start singing it. find to missing words you need for the song inside of you.
3. Think of a subject you want to write about. Whether it's a song about a break-up, or partying, keep the song focused on that subject. It will make it easier!!!
4. Listen actively to a lot of music. Good song writers read other peoples lyrics. Good songwriters listen to songs. As you listen, think about what you like about a song. Are the lyrics unique? Do the song's chord changes perfectly capture a mood? Do you like the transition from one part of the song to another?
5. Get technical. You don't have to have a degree in music theory to write a good song, but you should have an understanding of how songs are built. There are infinite ways to structure a song, but there's a common sequence found in most of them (see Tips). As you listen to songs, try to identify the different parts. Check yourself by looking at lyrics online or in a music book; the parts of songs are often labeled in these media.
6. Be ready when inspiration comes calling. Unfortunately, inspiration usually doesn't strike at the most convenient times, so it's important that you be able to remember each new song that pops into your head, no matter where you are. Carry a pen and paper with you wherever you go, or better yet, carry a tape recorder or digital audio recorder. Melodies can be extremely difficult to capture on paper unless you have a strong music background.
* It would be helpful if you have a musical instrument (e.g. Piano, keyboard, guitar, etc.) so that you can explore the music. An added advantage is that you can easily write down the notes (or tabs) when you've got your tune. Try recording the audio if possible. So, if you play guitar, record the guitar so don't have to write tabs. You can always go back to your recording, it really helps.

1. Figure out what you've got. Once in a while, inspiration will hit you like a full force gale, and suddenly you've got a full song out of nowhere. Most of the time, however, just a small piece of a potential song will come to you, leaving you to do the hard, but fun work of fleshing it out. You should have a feel for what part of the song you've come up with.

* If it's super catchy (either a lyrical phrase or a snippet of music), and you can envision it being a repeated theme in the song, you've got the chorus—the climax or summary of your musical story—and you need to write verses to tell the story.
* If what you've come up with seems more narrative lyrically or subtler musically — a part of a story rather than the main idea — you've probably got a verse, and you'll need to write the rest of the story (more verses) and, usually, a chorus.
2. Set the mood. Make sure your music fits the story. If it's a sad song, you may want your melody to evoke sadness (by slowing it down or adding some minor chords, for example) or you might want to add a twist and combine sad lyrics to upbeat music in order to create a sense of tension and ambiguity.
3. Say something. A song can get by with poor lyrics, but you've got a better chance of writing a really good song if your lyrics are great. This doesn't mean they have to be serious, but they should not be cliché or ho-hum. Write your lyrics as though you're talking to somebody who you want to impress or to someone toward whom you feel some sort of deep emotion.
4. Make your words sing.Lyrics can appeal to emotions, but they should also appeal to the ear. Rhyming is the most obvious way to accomplish this, and there are a number of rhyme schemes you can employ (see "Tips"). Learn about these and other tools of poetry, and try putting them to work for you.
5. Strike a balance between repetition and variety. Repetition is what makes a song catchy; repeated choruses, for example, stick in our heads even when the rest of a song doesn't. That's why so many people know just a few lines of so many songs. While there are good songs that are so simple that they have no chorus and have the same line length, the same rhyme schemes, and the same chord progressions repeated throughout them, most people get bored with that. The most common way to add variety is to insert a "bridge" into your song.
6. Look for the hook. The hook is that elusive part of a great song that captures your very soul and makes you want to listen to that song over and over. Hooks are frequently found in the chorus and often become the title of the song. Sadly, there's no recipe for hooks, but you'll know when you have one. Better yet, your friends will tell you, because it's the part of a song they can't seem to get out of their head.
* In Taylor Swift's "Our Song", the hook lyrics may be Cause it's late and his mama don't know.
* In Tommy Tutone's song "Jenny/8675309", the hook lyrics may be the numbers 8-6-7-5-3-0-9.
* In the Beatles' song "Happiness is a Warm Gun" the hook may be the ending part, Happiness is a warm gun, mama that repeats and fades.
* Remember hooks can also be musical. For example, if you hear the name of a song such as 'Smoke on the Water', a familiar tune will usually come to mind.
7. Smooth the rough edges. If the pieces don't fit together, try building a transition. Put all the sections of your song in the same key. If there's a sudden change in tempo (speed) between the two parts, try gradually changing the speed as you enter and exit the section that doesn't fit with the rest of the song. Try adding a short instrumental interlude that will carry you from one part to the next. Ultimately, if you find it ridiculously difficult to smooth the edges, the reason could be that those two parts just shouldn't be in the same song.
8. Get feedback. Play and/or sing your song for people and get their opinions. You'll probably get a better idea of what they really think after you've written a few songs: friends and family may tell you that your first song is great even if it's awful, but as they hear more of your songs, they'll probably give you hints like, "It's good, but I liked that first one you wrote better" or "Wow, that's the best song you've written" and "That's a really good song!"
9. Once you've finished your first song, don't stop. Keep writing and practicing, and you'll find yourself getting better and better. You may need to write a lot of songs before you hit on one you really like, and even after that, you may need to write a lot more before you get another good one. Work hard and have fun doing it!
10. Write music with someone If you don't have inspiration, someone could help you. If he does have inspiration he could inspire you with writing your song. Writing in your own is more easy and you avoid arguments you don't like...
